Another plus for the Chromecast is you can watch BT Sport on this but you can't on the Roku..... (Subscription Required)
If you can get that to work properly I'm impressed.

When you start to compare all the features available on the various devices, I can see why there is such confusion.

Some allow you to add channels and apps, others don't, some have apps for all the main on-demand services, whilst others only have a handfull.

With the Raspberry Pi and Beaglebones devices being cheap as chips, I can easily see the value in buying one, installing a base Android system and then customising it with all the apps and services I need myself.

Chromecast About 95 % working for me on BT Sport .
    Odd 5% just needs a reboot .
Not sure where the problem is Chromecast or BT Sport as its not signal strength .Just used it twice today and am about to use it again .

Only use it for the Premiership football, and never been a problem.

Right then, have been doing some research and to be honest I don't know if any of these are worth getting for the limited use I will make of them. My Sony Bravia has a selection of apps which include Blinkbox, iPlayer, Amazon, Youtube plus lots of other things. The Blu-ray player gives me iPlayer too plus Amazon and Youtube.. I have learned how to watch Youtube via my tablet on the tv.

All I really want is to be able to watch ITV catch up and one or two other channels plus when my son-in-law visits he could watch BT Sport as he subscribes. All these can be watched either on a tablet or on the laptop or even on our main PC.

As for Plex - I am lost!

Sorry to resurrect old thread. It has answered some of my q's, but I have a couple more.

We have had a Chromecast since Cmas. Used all the time for youtube, iplayer, mirroring websites plus love the fact you get great offers every now and then...not yet paid for now tv entertainment due to offers, plus £25 free on play store works for me.

However, i'm getting frustrated I can't watch catch up of 4,5 or itv. Was going to buy a nowtv box for £15 to get them as not available as chromecast apps.

Just spoken to man in Currys who advised me to ditch chromecast and get roku streaming stick instead at £39 as it does everything I currently use chromecast for, has the apps I want plus does a whole lot more.

What would you advise? Worth paying an extra £24 for the roku and ditching idea of nowtv box & chromecast?

Beware that on a Roku/Nowtv box, all the non BBC apps have highly restricted content, really they only allow catch up on progs made in house. A fraction of what you get on a laptop, stupidly.

Also it looks like the Roku will never have Amazon Prime Instant Video in the UK, which is the single thing preventing me from getting Amazon Prime. I only want one streaming box.
