Duplicate Default?

Hi all

Am paying down my debts on a DMP and all is well. I have just one defaulted account (HSPF) and it was sold last year to Lowell, but as I am with Stepchange the regular payment just continued without any issue (I pay £230 and the actual payment should be £340, so they are getting a reasonable amount).

When it was sold the amount owing reduced by abut £4K, no idea why. It was 6 months ago.

Over Christmas I decided to check my credit files to see if the higher or lower figure was reported. Noddle and Equifax show the reduced figure, Lowell have recorded the default and the HSPF default which showed previously has gone.

On Experian, there is 2 defaults showing. HSPF for the higher figure and Lowell for the lower figure, but definitely the same debt. How do I go about getting HSPF to remove their default? (and does it actually matter?)

Weirdly, on the Experian file it shows that Lowell are searching my file every single month. Why would they do this, and again, does it matter?

Thanks

On experian -does the HSPF entry show anywhere on it that is was assigned to a CAIS member? If so then it is acceptable for it to show twice, as it is understood to be duplicated and only the debt collectors entry would 'count'.

If not then it is not ok to show twice and I would write to both to state that they should not both be showing and that you required one of them to remove.

Re the lowell searches - not sure why they would be doing it, it shouldn't matter (providing they are not showing as credit application searches).

As Tixy has mentioned please contact us if any information you feel has been recorded incorrectly on your credit report and we would be happy to help.

Searches as ‘insurance quotation’, ‘ID check’ or unrecorded enquiry’ are not seen by lenders, if the searches have been recorded as credit application please let us know as we would be happy to look into the matter further for you.

    Kind Regards

  • Thank you both. It definitely does not say that it has been assigned.

The amounts and default date do not quite match on the report, but it is definitely the same debt as I have paperwork from both HSPF and Lowell from when this debt changed hands.

I have emailed customer services so I will see what they say.

    Thank you for your help
