3D Printer

This morning I saw an advert for a magazine to build a 3d printer part by part. Thought that's a good idea until I discovered how many issues and cost.
http://3dprinter-collection.com/
In total 90 issues. 1st issue £1.99, issue 53 £14.99, issue 59 £14.99 and the rest £6.99 so my calculations £640.10.
I don't think it will even make large 3d models, from the pictures most look the max size of a fist.
I'm sure you can get 3d printers already made cheaper.

Do you really need one?0

why pay £700 over 18 months before you can even start to print - check maplins etc for cost of ready made oneI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

I sore this advert myself and the first thing that sprang to mind was 'it will be obsolete by the time it is complete'.
Mind you, if you measure each part before you fit it, then you can scale it up and when the printer is finished, use it to print yourself all the parts needed to build a bigger 3D printer, thus saving the cost of buying a bigger one.Never Knowingly Understood.

Use a normal printer, then fold the paper... 3D.0

Well I was going to get a 3d printer but to be honest can't justify the need over cost or if I will really use it a lot.
I can just see some parents buying the magazine for the kid then realising the cost.0 -
Just had a look at Maplins and they have a 3D printer with a 20x20x20CM printing area at £699.99, or a different model with a 30% smaller print area for £1299.
Makes this one look quite cheap in comparison.Never Knowingly Understood.

That is Maplin for you.
CPC do a Velleman kit for £443 but personally I would buy direct from China for as little as £250 (like a lot of new things some pretty high margins are being made over here on this stuff)

The Velleman one in your link is the same one Maplin do.
As for AliExpress, I have used suppliers from there many times and each time, the stuff supplied has been fake or non-working so requiring raising a refund request.
For expensive stuff like this, I'd rather deal with UK-based suppliers as it is much less hassle.
I also used to work in quality control for a major medical diagnostics kit maker and 90% of the parts we got from China were always outside the required specs. Their entire ethos appears to be 'who cares about quality, just concentrate on price.'Never Knowingly Understood.

But look at the binder! It's superbly designed!
Who cares if they go out of business half way through, so you never actually get all the bits, when you can have a superbly designed binder?
Do any of the printers you can buy in one go have a superbly designed binder? Didn't think so!0 -
looked into these printers some time ago. The vast majority of plans then were either for various types of 'Liberator' guns, or multitudes of different butt plug designs - but i am not into any of these subjects0
