DFS Eazi Glides and doing the right thing

Back in September 2014 when we spent £2000+ on a Sophia suite with DFS, we were sold a set of Eazi Glides at a cost of £30 for a large and a small sofa that were included in the order.

When we took delivery in October 2014 the Eazi Glides were fitted by the delivery team. Within 2 days nothing was gliding easily anywhere! When I lifted the sofas and examined the installation all I found were small 10p size circular teflon pads. The feet of the sofas are a right angle piece of chromed pressed metal with a flange, i.e. not solid. The discs had been attached with double backed sticky pads at the point where the metal made a 90 degree turn, they detached themselves within 48 hours.

This meant that the metal feet were digging into our new carpet whenever the sofas were moved. Unhappy with this we complained and were sent a new set of Eazi Glide discs, these were just as useless. I complained again and I'm please to say DFS accepted that the Eazi Glides were not fit for purpose and they refunded the £30 to our credit card.

Well done DFS! We are now waiting to see their response to our complaint that the cushion foam is too soft and is not returning to shape after being sat on over a period of only 10 weeks. The upholsterer who made the house call has gone away to order us new cushions as he agreed that he should not be able to flatten cushion foam by squeezing it in his hand.

So whether we will be happy with the response or asking to return the suite I don't know as yet. We like the Sophia suite, it is supposed to be at the upper end of the DFS range where they are trying to break in to a higher priced product range but we are starting to worry that it may be overpriced? Wait and see.

Be careful when you hear companies are trying to reposition themselves, in the majority of cases this simply means stop selling your bottom range goods and increase the cost of all the rest without any changes in quality etc.

There have been several companies recently, Omega, Mulberry etc, that did exactly the same when the credit crunch occurred but the upper end of the market were reported as being much less impacted.

On the plus side they do seem at least to be dealing with your complaints, though if they've just increased their margins then they've the cash to do so now.

Guess you have never shopped in Lidl, how about Aldi have you been in there.
  • I have been in aldi once, and I went into lidl but couldn't get past all the customers track-suits and women with 10 children. Must have been giro day.

So if you couldn't get past all of the customers, why do you feel qualified to comment on the quality of goods they sell when you've not actually seen these for yourself?

An easy answer, either you are a bored schoolboy or an immature adult just having his daily troll.

I think what the rude one means is that it may be good quality for the price but that it may not be as good quality as elsewhere.

But then given we're all regulars on a consumer rights board, we're likely to think of quality in the terms of law - ie goods are of satisfactory quality if they meet the standard a reasonable person would regard as satisfactory, taking into account all the relevant circumstances (including price).

At least personally, I regularly say you wouldnt expect a £20 microwave to be as good or last as long as a £200 one.
