I think a little more info is required before this can be answered. For example what feeds the gate valve? It is unlikely to be a relief valve. Could you post a picture?0

OP, your proposed system is exactly like mine and it works well. I wouldn't have it any other way but TBH I thought it was usual to have the bathroom heating connected to the HW.You can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose.0

Thanks for the response. The primary flow comes from the downstairs boiler, then goes either:
* via a honeywell to the hot water cylinder;
* or to the accumulator;
* or to one/two/all of the three outlet pipes, which I presume run to the downstairs radiators (honeywell controlled), upstairs radiators (honeywell controlled) or the gate valve ...
Can't see easily how to insert an image to this, so let me know if I've still not made it clear!

Without pics, i would presume the gate valve 15mm is the bypass valve, this should not be closed, it should be open slightly. Should have been set when the system was balanced. But ideally now a auto bypass valve is used.0
