EDF billing problem

I had been with EDF on a variable contract for both gas and electricity until July 2013. I contacted EDF at the end of this contract to change to a dual fuel contract. On a recent bank check realised that no payment had been taken from my account since july 2013 when the contract should have changed. On investigation and contact with EDF helpdesk turns out a new contract was in fact never set up by EDF but they have continued to supply us with both gas and electricity since then but have not billed or charged us for this energy. Where do I stand now with regards to contract and payment which will no doubt be a huge bill :(

You are entitled to only be billed for 12 months under the back billing rules. You can also ask for the debt to be paid over 12 months as well.

If they haven't been taking payments from your account then it should be full with money, just waiting for the bill to come in.

I really find it hard to understand how people cannot notice that the best part of £100 isn't being taken from their accounts every month unless of course you've got so much that it doesn't stand out

Did you not ever check your bank account to see what's in there or whether bills were being paid or salary going in and wonder why it wasn't going down like it should, or did you just spend it all hoping that no one would notice?

How did you contact EDF to change tariffs? they will probably be able to source a phone call and listen to it.

What you want is for the back billing rule to be implemented but also to be charges on what ever tariff you signed up as its likely to have been cheaper then standard variable over the period.
  • Thank you Joyful and Bark01 your feedback was much appreciated.

Matelovdave you obviously have way more time on your hands than I do to constantly check that the companies you set up direct debits with are doing their job properly and of course to reply to my query with no constructive or helpful advice. I was sure that there was a banner next to my post provided by MSE asking that members be nice to newbies NOT ridicule them, you obviously missed that, probably too busy checking your bank account was in order!
