Locking wheel nut

Got a flat tyre on my touran. It needs a new tyre as a nail went through it.
Mechanic can't get the wheel off as whoever did the tyre last time has locked it too much.
He says it needs a new locking wheel nut.
I know it has to be the correct one, how easy a&e replacements to come across?
So annoying.

I wouldn't bother with locking nuts, they're more trouble than they're worth - just replace it ( and the ones on the other wheels ) with an ordinary one.
Or do you mean you need a new "key". If so, there are many generic kits available online that may work, or else a main dealer will be able to supply the correct one.
Easier still, get a friendly local mechanic to get it off for you. I had this problem, my local guy welded an ordinary nut onto the locking one then just unscrewed it.0 -
I certainly wouldn't bother getting another locking nut on anything but very expensive alloys. If the car has enough air to get to a local tyre place, they'll whizz them off (phone and check first!), there's techniques from basically bashing on an undersize socket, to using a special socket that cuts into and grips the old locking nut.
Don't use heat anywhere near the alloy unless it is a final, final resort.0 -
Mechanic or tyre fitter can't get the wheel off?
I'd be concerned if he was time served.0 -
It can't be driven.
He's my neighbour (proper mechanic!) and he's left a Jack on the car as well.
So is it worth getting a mobile tyre changer (technical term!) out to see what they can do?

Just spoke to mechanic again, it's the locking wheel but tool, not the locking wheel but that's broken.
Can you tell I haven't got a clue?!
Am going to call a mobile tyre place anyway & hopefully they can help.0 -

Do you have breakdown cover, i.e. AA/RAC, call them they usually carry with them "nut crackers" which basically cracks the locking wheel nut bolt. Then as others have suggested get a standard non-locking bolt put back in about £2 each.
Some mobile tyre garages also perform this service, usually £10 per nut.0 -

Will def get replaced with standard nut.
Car is going to VW garage as they have master keys or something. Just need my mechanic to come back & inflate the tyre.
Fun & games....0 -
You will find that a visit to a VW dealer for them to mess about with their range of standard keys may work, but will be considerably more expensive than getting a tyre fitter who removes them as part of his daily job, to do it first time.0
