I got home today from my 2 day holiday and recieved this letter this morning this it what it says.
Dear Mr James.
YOUR CLAIM FOR JOBSEEKERS ALLOWENCE.
We are writing to tell you that jobseekers allowence can count as taxable income. You can get full information in leaflet IR41, available from this office or the inland revenue.
For the perdiod upto 28 June 2007 in the 2008 tax year we paid a total of allowance of £609.84 of which £609.84 was taxable. This is added to any earnings for this tax year.
If you think the amount of taxable allowance is wrong, you should write to this office giving your reasons. You must do this within 60 days of this letter as you cannot challenge it afterwars.
What's this mean? Does anyone know any help apprichiated..

hi, i've got some of those letters! they send me them like every fortnight! i'm not too sure what they mean but i'm not very worried. i think basically it just does what it says on the tin, that is that it's just saying this money they've given you is taxable. nothing to worry about. hopefully. i don't think so anyway.... !0

What it means is that when you return to work, you will be taxed as though you earned your Jobseeker's allowance. For example, if your JSA is worth 600 quid, and you earn 10k for the year, for tax purposes they will assume that the 600 quid comes out of your non-taxable amount so you will have earned 10,600 for the year. You don't pay tax whilst on JSA although it is taxable income.0
