Improving Credit Score

Hi all,

I got into some trouble with Credit Cards in my younger years and am now trying to sort out my Credit file/score. Despite having alot more money now, I have struggled to get credit for anything over recent years.

I currently have a "poor" rating approx 100 points below the national average. This is due to 2 main items, 1 being a default on a credit card back in 2010, and the other being a CCJ also in 2010. The CCJ is not showing a settled, although it was paid back over a six month period. (I understand these will stay on my credit file for six years)

My real question is regarding the 3 credit reference agencies. I have signed up with Equifax, but have noticed that my most recent credit (loan for a motorbike which i managed to get - just) does not show on the file. This is all up to date, no missed payments etc, so surely this would increase my score?
Also, someone mentioned that the 3 agencies may hold different information on me and that this loan will be shown on another file. Is this true? and does it mean that I also have to sign up to Experian etc to check that they do not have different scores??

I have tried to search the internet for the answer but cannot seem to find anything...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Gary

  • The scores are irrelevant.

Check that the information is correct. Then manage your credit responsibly and your files wil take care of themselves.

The 3 CRAs may not have the same information - it depends on which ones your lenders report too.

You don't need to check the scores on all or any of the agencies. The scores are a waste of your money and nobody sees them except you and the credit reference agency.
A potential lender does not see them. To see what a potential lender would see then you only need the statutory report which costs £2 per agency (or for callcredit its free through noddle).

It is correct that not all lenders report to all agencies, so your loan may well be showing on one or both of the other agencies. Equally a potential lender may search 1, 2, or even all 3.

With a default and CCJ on your file then you won't be able to make a significant improvement to you ability to get credit until they have dropped off. That said its worth getting a certificate of satisfaction so that it shows you have repaid it. • Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I have sent off to the court for my Certificate of Satisfaction for the CCJ. It should come off my file in approx 12 months from what I can see. Is it on from 6 years from court date or payment date??

My loan for my motorbike does show on the noodle credit file (all up to date) - just need to get my experian one now!

Will I need to send my C of S off to the credit agency or will the CCJ be marked as settled on all files automatically?

    Thanks again.

6 years from the judgement date.

The update of the CCJ being satisfied will be passed through to the CRAs automatically now
