Orange Mobile have hammered my credit score

Options
I checked my Noddle credit score rating this morning and was surprised to see it had been downgraded from a 5 to a 3. The reason why? Orange Mobile have an entry in January stating that I was one month late with a payment. My contract expired on November 14. I gave them 30 days prior notice and settled up my account with them. I then cancelled my direct debit to ensure that no further payments would be made. It was then that my brother expressed interest in buying my phone. However, this was locked into Orange so two days before my phone was cut off, I phoned them and agreed to pay a £20.00 fee to unlock the phone. They told me they would send me a bill for this amount less two or three days monies they owed me for line rental. Obviously with a cancelled direct debit they were unsuccessful taking the money from my account so they sent me a paper bill which I paid a week or two later. My question is this. Should the entry for late payment even be placed on my credit file? I consider myself to have settled my contract with them so effectively my credit score is being affected because I was late paying a phone unlock fee and not fees relating to call charges and line rental. Thank you.

Orange/EE are completely out of control and need bringing back into line.

I upgraded from Orange to EE back in August, they then put two late payment markers on my account for an invalid bill that was neither correct or in fact even ever billed.

I had to complain to get this removed. Part of the apology involved a compensation payment which was put as a credit on my account. A live DD mandate was still open to them. Last months bill was 8p following credit note fully used. They didn't take the 8p and have now put a late payment on my credit file.

Again I am having to complain. They are a disgrace and I would urge anybody not to use them.

You should definitely pursue this one - start with a letter rather than a phone call - after all, you were not late.
  • Well I e-mailed them raising the points I had raised and I must say they were very good about it and resolved things in my favour and took roughly a week. I received the following response by e-mail. That will do me.

Thanks for your email about the credit data we sent to your Equifax, Experian and Callcredit credit files. We have looked into this for you and can confirm that the credit reference agencies have been instructed to remove the late payment you are referring to and amended your credit files to show as settled with no balance.

This change will reflect in 72 hours Please obtain a brand new copy of your credit report to see this change.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused, I hope this resolves your query.
  • I have had a similar issue with Orange. My son's contract was ending in November 2014, i called in October to give 30 days notice.... firstly they proceeded to cut off MY contract (not even with orange- its EE and has been for 2+ years) - took days to get sorted, finally i managed to speak to an english speaking person who assured me the contract was ended and i owed them nothing. Roll on 2 months and i get a bill from Orange- it was only for £6 something- i called orange to ask what was going on -the contract had been ended in November, notice given in October.

I paid the £6 something and asked for it in writing that i would not get another bill from orange, i was no longer a customer and no longer had that orange number in use. - written conformation given via email - that was December 29th..... 15th January i receive another bill for £2.29 !!!!!!!

They just seem to do what they like!

Keep hassling them, as I rule I always leave DD's a few months after a cancellation, I don't trust companies not to cause this sort of situation.
