About the first time anything approaching a reasonable interest rate since the Banks/Gordon Brown/FSA crisis in 2008. You'd have though whoever planned it would have anticipated high demand but no - they read the same guide I did about using a raspberry pi as a webserver then went ahead and did it. At least I think they must have unless they found a Sinclair Spectrum somewhere to use instead.
Loads of news stories pointing out how rubbish it is. I've tried on and off all day to register but it just keeps on timing out. At this rate I'm wondering if I'll get to register before I pop my clogs...

I am new to this Forum lark and woops I may have posted this twice as I suddenly lost the other! I did eventually get to fill in the application form online but it took forever. Making up passwords and other things takes a long time. Eventually I got a letter from them but they had put a wrong initial for me. It says they use electronic checks and if unsuccessful they will ask for documentary evidence. I tried to get through to the helpline number for days because I thought the check would have been on the wrong initial. Eventually after standing over the phone and redialling and replacing receiver constantly I got through. He was a very pleasant young man but he did not know enough about the product or how things work in England. I said that if I had to have 2 documents certified it would cost more money than I would possibly get in interest plus the postage. He didn't think so. He was sure a Doctor would do it for free - £30. What about a Solicitor - £20. Surely I knew a civil servant - no. They don't allow the Post Office to do it which is the cheapest £8.75. He suggested I should send the originals then. That will not happen. He also told me to sign the letter they had sent me and send it back even though it had my wrong initial on - with a covering letter (which could become disconnected and then I have signed something wrongly. I have checked and a Police Officer cannot sign unless they know you personally. Don't know where to go from here. Can anyone help?0

I got mine OK a couple of days later. It was still like wading through treacle though. Why not just try again and get the details right this time around?
I expect it's all the complaints to MPs about !!!!! government websites that makes them think everybody needs 50Mbps+ BB. Lots of government sites would be just as fast on dialup as they are on even the fastest broadband but that's probably too technical for your average MP to comprehend.0
