PS3 to VGA monitor

Hi all,
I have a PS3 and have just acquired an Iiyama Pro Lite E1908WSV 19 inch Widescreen LCD Monitor. I obviously already own the HDMI and VGA cables respectively.
I have done some research already about the best way to use my monitor as a display for my PS3 and there seems to be numerous possible ways to go about it, but I would be grateful for opinions or advice based on experiences.
I understand that it won't be possible to play sound via this method, however I may be wrong.
Also, my monitor can support a resolution up to 1680 x 1050 if this will make any difference but only has the VGA input option and a round audio in socket.
Thanks.
Gareth.

umm , I had a similar problem setting up an intel nuc
this had a hdmi out only , however you could not read the bios on a tv
I bought this http://cpc.farnell.com/newlink/nlhdmi-hsv02/adapter-hdmi-vga-with-audio/dp/CS27594
as well as supplying a video feed (vga plug) there is a jack socket to plug in a 3.5 audio cable
add another random item say http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/search/browse.jsp?N=411+2005+207340&Ns=P_PRICE_FARNELL_CPC%7C0&Ntk=gensearch&Ntt=3.5+mm+audio+cable&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&locale=&appliedparametrics=true&getResults=true&suppressRedirect=true&isRedirect=&originalQueryURL=
to take the order over £10 and its free P+P
hope this helps0
