Second card for my mother and withdrawals abroad
Any
Hi,
Hope someone can help me or has some experience.
My mother lives abroad (Europe). She has no bank account and she cannot get a bank account.
I need to get her regular monthly payment to help with her finances.
She would withdraw monies once a month as a lump sum.
I bank with Nationwide. I don't want to give her a card to my full current account. What I really need is a card, either in my name or her name as second holder from account held in my name that would only give her an access to a pool of money I assign to her.
Do you think I have to open a brand new account? Can I control them both on the same log in? Will the bank let me open two? Or do you think I should use some sort of other account (instant access savings or something) that can be added onto my online access?
Thank you

Pre-paid card(s) seems to be the answer.0

Any suggestions please?
So I could get her one and just keep topping it up when needed?
Any with low fees / good exchange rate for withdrawals abroad you can recommend?
Haven't thought of them..0 -
Yes - if you "don't want to give her a card to ... full current account"Do you think I have to open a brand new account?
Yes - if it's with the same Nationwide. Can I control them both on the same log in?
Yes, although this isn't guaranteed. Will the bank let me open two?
Very few saving accounts come with cards. I don't know any at Nationwide.Or do you think I should use some sort of other account (instant access savings or something) that can be added onto my online access?
Don't forget about currency exchange fees. At Nationwide only premium FlexPlus account doesn't charge for this. MSE article:
(you can find prepaid cards here as well).0 -
Just a note to add - she is in Europe, but country outside Euro currency. So far I looked at the recommended prepaid card and that seems to be a problem.
I know that only FlexPlus account don't charge for withdrawals. But FlexAccount doesn't have too high fees, and from experience offers brilliant exchange rates (I use it a lot).
It's not that I don't want her to have access to "full current account", but that I don't want to have access to my MAIN current account.
Sorry, by brand new account I meant to start from scratch. In application etc. Or if opening second one under my main account is easier. Difficult to explain..

A today's thread at HUKD: 99p for Pockit Prepaid Mastercard - £8.40 TCB - £7.41 Profit
It definitely charges for currency exchange though.
BTW, it's 2% and plus £1 for ATMs for Flexaccount. I am pretty sure you can apply for a second account from your online banking. BTW, you can make £50+ if you open an account with some other bank and switch it to Nationwide: http://www.nationwide.co.uk/products/current-accounts/landing-page/recommend-a-friend0 -
Yes, I know about the 2% and £1.
Without feeding big money into some account to make it premium it won't be any better anywhere else.
Thank you
Now I am contemplating 2 options...
Sending regularly £100 a month.
FlexAccount 2% and £1 ie £3 cost but good exchange rate
https://www.travelex.co.uk/services/cash-passport/globe-cash-passport
2.49% and not sure how good or bad the exchange rate is..
However it would be easier and without any checks to get the travelex card..
What do you think?
I will look at that article
Thanks again0 -

Hmm... it seems you load it at "PayPoints"
As I have never used Paypoint in my life, I assume you have to have that card with you to load it?
Ps. Ah, just found out you can load it online too
Thanks0 -
I already recommended 2 friends, and earned £100 :-)0

They say at HUKD that you can do it for free by a bank transfer.
And they say at http://www.pockit.com/ :Get up to 3 additional cards so you can share money
Well, now it's time for them to recommend you then...;)I already recommended 2 friends, and earned £100 :-)0 -
Wow...
Travelex exchange rate
£1 = Kc33.93
VISA Nationwide rate
£1 = Kc36.08
