Any suggestions for a seaside holiday in the UK

I'm looking for suggestions for a seaside destination suitable for 2 not so young sisters, who need somewhere where it's fairly flat, we'd like to stroll along the prom, sit and watch the world go by, that sort of thing. We shall be travelling by train. We've done the Suffolk/ Norfolk and N. Wales Coast. Any suggestion please.

I favour the Worthing, Brighton and Eastbourne areas myself. Hastings is a bit hilly in parts, as are Dover and Folkestone.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Sidmouth. Old fashioned, no slot machine 'amusements' etc. Old fashioned, quiet, very genteel.0

Southport? Lovely long pier either by tram or walk. Lovely old fashioned promenade and shopping alleys. Close link to Liverpool for the Beatles museum and Albert docks :T:T0

I liked Penzance very much, also Plymouth. Have they ever been on a Hovercraft? Southsea/Portsmouth and Ryde on the IoW would be a possibility.
More information would be useful: do they prefer places that young people avoid or do they like a bit of life around them?Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I suggest genteel and rather quirky Budleigh Salterton. About 40 mins by bus from Sidmouth, so one could be a day trip out from the other.
I have to visit Budleigh regularly and never tire of walking up and down the sea front. Some of it is part of the town, and there's a 'strand' (called The Bar, I think) that goes out the the mouth of the River Otter. Never tire of sitting on the same bench each time, with the great view of Otter Head and the pine trees. Lots of great eating places, tea shops and independent shops. Fishing boats that work from the beach. Millions of benches to sit on (not much of an exageration, there's at least half a mile of them!!) Unique(-ish!) large pebbly beach that I don't think you'll want to risk twisting your ankles on but I don't think going into the sea was a requirement? If it is, take the bus 12 mins to the sandy beach at Exmouth. Travelling there: train goes to Exmouth; lovely ride along the Exe estuary. Bus or taxi to Budleigh from there. There's also a lovely longer but still flat walk along the River Otter to Otterton Mill.
I like Sidmouth too, and got to the Folk Festval a couple of times this year. Avoid the week of 31st July if you DON'T like folk music/morris dancing!! Actually, the atmosphere is amazing, with loads of street performaers, and every public hall/school/church hall/hut/cupboard in town used for some music or dance session or class ... but accommodation will be packed. At this time, it's great to visit for the day from Budleigh!

I realise the picture shows the cliffs at the west end, but there's still about a mile of flat sea front to walk along! Also, if you take the bus to Exmouth there's a flat cycle/walking path along the River Exe - all 12 moiles to Exeter if you want!
Day trip to historic Exeter is easy.0 -
I have fond memories of childhood holidays on the Isle of Wight, although perhaps some of the charm might have given way to commercialism in the recent years.0
