VED ('road tax') on my part exchange

I am selling my car to a dealer as a part exchange on a new one.

When I taxed the car I am trading in, I did it under the old system.

So my question is, now that we have the new tax-disc-less system, would I automatically get a refund from the DVLA? Or do I need to apply for it?

Or would my tax be transferrable to the dealer/next owner due to the fact that it was paid for under the old system?

My part exchange car has 5 full months remaining until renewal (1st July).

It was a total change over - your current VED cannot be passed on.

No-one can benefit from someone else having paid the VED -it is no longer transferable.

You MUST get a refund - it should be automatic after you pass the car over to the dealer.

Your dealer will give you the change of owner slip from the V5c.

Send this to DVLA and you will get an automatic refund of any tax remaining on the vehicle. If done before end Jan you will get all months left from 1 Feb.
