Bank package charges

Following the death of my mother in law in 2008, it came to light that one of the major high street backs had been charging her a monthly fee for several years for what we now know as Bank Package Charges.
The bank was approached about these charges after her death but would not speak to my wife (her only daughter) or myself back in 2008/9, so the matter was dropped..
My mother in law was partly deaf with very poor eye sight, and very secretive about her affairs she never owned a car or never learnt to drive, never had a passport or owned a mobile phone.
I believe she was charged for mobile phone insurance, travel insurance and some other charge.
Can we claim against the bank after this period of time I have the bank details account number and sort code and the closing date of the account in 2008.
Please confirm is this possible and how do we go about this for the maximum return.
Thanks

On death, the executor of the estate takes on responsibility and that is the only person the bank can deal with.I believe she was charged for mobile phone insurance, travel insurance and some other charge.

A complaint on behalf of a deceased person will need the executor of the estate to make it. It also has some limitations. For example, you say you belief she was mis-sold. However, you were not present at any meeting or conversation. So, no allegation of what may or may not have been said can be made. So, you need to focus on the reasons for complaint and present them in a sensible way.
It is possible that too much time has passed. It is over 6 year ago from her death. There is a 3 year/6 year rule (6 years from sale or 3 years from being reasonably aware of an issue) to make a complaint. So, a possible time bar could exist. However, if they dont apply that, then the other issue is going to be record keeping. Records may already have been destroyed.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
