Leaking Shower (Valve Type)

Hi,
I hope this is the right place.
I have a valve type shower where there is the mixer flush on the wall and then further up you have the head coming out of the wall. We have noticed that some small drops are started to come through the kitchen ceiling (below) whenever the shower is used.
We are in the process of working on the kitchen so it isn't a massive issue and we have chopped a bit of the ceiling away to stop it from gathering.
I am not 100% where the water is coming from (whether it is the valve, the head connection or the shower tray). I put about 6 or 7 buckets of water down the shower tray (and up the tiles to see if it was the silicone around the tray to fault) today and there wasn't a drop (but may not have been quick enough compared to somebody having a shower).
I unscrewed the head in case that connection was to blame and put some fresh tape on and screwed it back in as tight as possible and still there is dripping.
This leads me to think it will be the valve or a connection to the valve.
The only issue is that to get access a fair few tiles are going to need to come out of the shower enclosure to get access (it is behind the wall, the wall behind is brick).
Is there anything else I can check to rule out? I don't want to call a plumber out as an emergency as I can just bath instead for now until payday when I can get a pro to come and have a look.
