Renting with a private agent and on Housing Benefit

Hello,
I hope I can get some help and advice. I want to move into a new property with my friend but as I've seen, private letting agents seem to have zero acceptance of anyone in receipt of benefits. My friend is a trainee psychotherapist, so at least one of us is working. We also have a good guarantor. I'm desperate to move but it seems like it's a closed loop for someone like me, despite receiving fairly substantial benefits and with good previous employment and landlord references.
I thought about trying to somehow pull the wool over the agent's eyes by falsifying an employer but it looks too messy to attempt with their background checks.
Any advice on what we can do?
Thanks & Regards,
Anthony

Forget about it being messy to pull the wool over anyone's eyes. It would be fraud and illegal I would imagine.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Try and find a private landlord. Would save you money too, agency fees ate hideous.0

I certainly would not under any circumstances provide false employment information. You may find during the application the letting agents will ask for copies of your bank statements so they would expect to see regular income from the employer you have put in your application.0
