Eon & Bank Account Error

Something odds happened this week.
Firstly, I have to admit, I don't look at my Bank Statements, but instead occasionally use the my Banking Phone App for the past few transactions.
So I've found out this week, that for past 13mths, it transpires my Eon account has been debiting the monthly payments from another bank account, not mine!
Don't even know how I've not noticed (£45 PCM!).
Eon have not once contacted me to say they've not been receiving the money, and so my account, as far as they're concerned, is paid and upto date.
It transpired I'd been in credit, to Dec 31st, and so they wrote to say they were refunding me £22.
I called them yesterday, because I'd not seen the transaction on my banking app.

And so it's unravelled. The guy on the phone was completely stumped, and said he wasn't sure what to do. But would escalate it to their resolution centre.
So, here's the question - am I liable to have to replay this money?
What are my rights, if any? There's no way I can now stump up £500, but do I have too? When nobody has claimed that the money hasn't been received or that someone else's account has been making payments from their bank account?
It seems that my and the Other bank account number differ by one digit - hence the til now unknown discrepancy!

So, what to do now?

I was actually in the process of a switch anyhow, as my fixed term ended last week?

Help!

Sooo... a little unusual on this.

I would imagine you will need to pay, the other person will just do an indemnity and you've used this energy.

However I am sure EON will set up a budget plan for you to pay the bills of over the next 12 months so 450/12+your normal usage if the same £90 a month for a year to cover your debt and your next usage.

I would imagine since EON have put the details in wrong you could try for a gesture of goodwill and they make a certain amount off the bill but it seems you're looking to get out of paying it, and I highly doubt that's going to happen

Good morning The Quiver and welcome to the forum :)

This is also a bit odd to me to be honest, how was the Direct Debit set up in the first place on your account? Over the phone? Online, etc?

I would have thought the sort code would also be incorrect and of course the name on the account wouldn't match with the bank account name.

However, this will all be looked in to by the resolutions team, I also agree with MK55 that you will need to pay for the energy that you've used, but I'm sure we'd be able to put a payment plan in place for you and then you can spread it over a number of months.

Let me know if I can help at all.

    Helena :)
