Hi,
I hope some can give me an idea of cost for 2 x 1 meter width of linning to be installed under the tiles on one side of the house.
I had a quote of £580 then to my shock I recieved an invoice of £708.
Can some please confirm what price I should be paiding
Kind Regards

Did the quote say 580 exc Vat?
If you agreed tot the quote at 580 then you need to establish where additional costs wereThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi the_r_sole,
Unfortunately to quote we received and agreed verbal - nothing was mentioned about VAT.
I have since received details explaining the £708 is now £590 included VAT.
Kind Regards

For a retail customer the quoted price should have included VAT, or it should have been made clear that VAT was on top. It is different with trade customers - this is something that is always checked, or clarified, before an order is agreed.
I assume the contractor is VAT Registered and not pocketing the "VAT"? Plus, you will be getting a VAT Invoice since VAT is being charged?0 -
No this was a company with an office.
I don't normally use this methodology, unfortunately I had to act quickly avoid further damage which the rain was causing.
Do I challenge the cost?, or suck it up and pay the £708?
Kind Regards

Seems pretty simple to me. Assuming the following is true...
They quoted £580. They did not tell you of any deviations. You did not ask for any extra work. You then got a bill for £708.
I would pay the £580 and tell them that is what was quoted, that is what you are paying and they can take you to court for the rest.
Though you should have got a written quote to have avoided this. They might take you to court. If they do, then who knows what will happen, your word against theirs. Just dpeends how much you want to fight it with them. Good luck.0
