When you say the meter is faulty, what do you mean? If you have had no electricity since September then call back and make sure you stay online until they send an engineer round.
Possibly an email as back up, with you MP copied in.

If the meter is working, but you think it is costing too much you'll need more detail.

You need to get as much information as you can so you can take control of the situation.

Check the details on the meter - each time you press the blue button it will change - a letter identifies the screen.
To prove that the meter is charging too much start a diary with the details from the meter.
    At least the following:
    A - credit on the meter/emergency credit
F - weekly charge (standing charge + debt repayment)
G - Total reading for meter
    H - Reading 1
    I - Price 1
J - Reading 2 (you may not have this)
K - Price 2 (you may not have this)
S - Total debt on meter (you'll need the key in to see this)
T - Weekly payment for debt (you'll need the key in to see this)

Also record how much you have topped up since the last diary entry.
This way you can see what the meter is charging you and what it thinks it is charging you.
You can also see how much you are using in kWh which is easier to compare than pounds and pence.

Armed with this information you are more likely to get to the bottom of the issue.

    Good morning lisajohns,

There's some excellent advice here from SwanJon, so thank you for this.

Is the meter still faulty? Or was this fixed? Do you know what the issue was with it?

I think the first thing to do is to go through the settings on the meter as SwanJon says, you'll then see if it's collecting any incorrect debt, the prices you're paying etc.

Also, read the meter, look at the usage and how many kWh are being used.

There's no need for you to be passed around, we have a dedicated pre-payment department that should be looking in to this with you. Contact them and talk to us, or let me know and I'll put you in contact with them.

They may need a list of all appliances, lights, how you cook. I know you say you only used an oil filled radiator, but what is the heating at the property and how do you heat your hot water.

There's also quite a bit of info on the website, that you may find helpful.

These are all things that need to be looked at.

Please let me know if you need me.

    Helena :)

  • Hi Lisajohns, as above, we need more info about this fault on the meter to help you. Swanjohn has given you all the meter details. One small amendment to that list is that screen H is used by most of the suppliers as the reading they mostly use. It may be the same as G.. Screen H is the total number of units you have used since you first occupied providing you got a new card and used that. Screen G is the total number of units used since meter was installed. Important to check the debt screen and debt repayment screen..Screen A will also show a debt of standing charges due if the meter has nt been credited enough to cover the weekly standing charges
