Wireless Printer/ Scanner do you need software/drivers?

Laptop with -Windows XP Media,
Printer/scanner = Samsung scx 3205w
When scanning a A4 document, to that laptop wirelessly, then what is the procedure in terms of 'connecting the 2, without a wire?
does the laptop detect the printer automatically?
does software have to be installed? to use the wireless feature?
do drivers have to be installed?
or nothing has to be installed?
if so, what are the steps to connecting to the wireless pc (remember windows Xp Media)

Normally drivers need to be installed
Its been too long since I used XP to add a printer/ scanner. On Mac when you do the equivalent of Add Printer it automatically detects the printer on the network and asks if its the one you want to add or not.0 -

There is a good chance that the software won't run on XP
