Morals are FREEManx_Raider wrote: »...What you earn has a HUGE effect on what you can do.
Absolute rubbish... An email or phone call to the supplier notifying them of their error is a minuscule cost.
You never know - they may say you can keep it anyway. (Has been known to happen on many occasion.)
Then you would be morally correct as well as having the more expensive item.Manx_Raider wrote: »I'd like to be able to afford a car that's more eco-friendly, e.g. a hybrid, but that's 2 to 3 times the price of my current car...
That has nothing to do with morals - that's a choice.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -
So you would be dishonest as long as you knew you wouldn't get caught.
JC !!!
Actually, this applies to most people. There was a very interesting psych study done a few decades ago which examined peoples' 'price' and perceived price of honesty. 20 years ago, most people would steal £10 if they thought they could get away with it. Now it's around £30(ish). In terms of purchasing power, the two amounts are comparable, so, most people are still fundamentally dishonest if they think they can get away with it. The only thing that keeps us honest is the fear of discovery or sanction. The OP changed his tune when he found out that the law could be brought into the equation - until then, his price had clearly been met and exceeded.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

Which is a really sad state of affairs...The only thing that keeps us honest is the fear of discovery or sanction....
Or being a better person than what some people in society appear to be these days perhaps.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0 -

It's human nature. We are an avaricial species. In fact, all higher mammals are. Chimps will do the same thing. It is part of our survival instinct. What has gone wrong is where we have fixated on things that do not necessarily impact on our survival in a real sense.Or being a better person than what some people in society appear to be these days perhaps.
Being self righteous and sanctimonious works too.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it
