Hi,
I have built a new home and we are at the finishing stage.
Choosing tiling has been a long drawn out process, as we know it is key to the finished look of the house, but we are almost there.
However, we are having difficulty selecting an appropriate colour for our hall floor tiles.
We are also using the same wood effect tile in our Lounge which is accessed from the Main Hall.
Our doors will be White Oak V-Groove as per http://www.chriswaldron.co.uk/pictures/doors/oak/oak-palermo-aspull-2013.jpg.
We are tiling the entrance hall in wood effect tiles so I was wanting to know, should we try to match the colour of the Oak, or would we be better contrasting it with either a lighter or darker tile?
I had wanted to go with Walnut but my wife was concerned that if we did, then our floor would need to be dark as well and therefore would have created an overall too dark look.
If we did revert to Walnut doors, would this be the same i.e. would we have to try to match it, or by bringing in a contrasting wood effect tile would it allow the space to not look so dark?
The skirting and architraves will be painted white and the walls will be a light neutral colour.
The hall is large and spacious with a vaulted ceiling overhead if that helps.
We will be tiling in the next couple of weeks so hopefully someone can offer their advice as to what way we would be best to go.
Any help much appreciated.

There's no right answer, and I imagine the resultant effect will vary so much with the amount and sources of light and the exact tones of the tiles that a forum can only be of very limited help.
I'd suggest maybe getting a couple of those dreadful home interior magazines, let your Mrs pick out what she likes, and going with that...but I like an easy life ;-)0 -
Or google hallways and select images
Will give you some ideas so you can see what you like.
Darker colours tend to make a space look smaller, although good lighting/natural light will ameliorate this.
Also it will be difficult to get tiles to match exactly the wood of the doors. Contrast will probably be better but a lot depends on what sort of 'look' you and your wife want.It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Personally I'd go for something like a limestone which I think looks classy, heavy duty and will work well goign into the oak. I'm a big fan of Mandarin Stone so check out their products and pics0

Thanks everyone.
My issue is , with the Oak doors, i don't want an oak floor, as with them being different materials, it would be nigh on impossible to get an exact match.
Even at that, i think it would be too much to have it all one colour.
So I'm essentially looking a colour of wooden floor tile that contrasts well with Oak.
I appreciate the offering about the Limestone, especially as we are going with a grey porcelain tile in our Kitchen which leads off the Hall, but we felt that we didn't want that grey to be the first impression as you came through the front door so we want to go with the wood effect.
Our tiling supplier has porposed tiles from the brochure located here http://cms-omniadvert-com.arscolor.com/storage/sito142/acanto%20preview_cpy_5.pdf so perhaps someone could suggest soemthing that would work well with the doors from this brochure?0
