Cordless Drill

Options
Hi

I am looking to buy a decent cordless drill. It will not be needed for major jobs just one for jobs around the house. I want a decent one that will last for a while but don't want to spend a fortune.

Is it worth spending big money on bits for the drill or are they standard and any bits fit any make of drill?

Thanks
Val :)

    Battery guide.
Ni_cad battery = poor life, slow charging and short failure time, basically DIY light use only on well planned jobs due to charging time.

Li-Ion battery = fast charging, up to 10x use time of Ni-cad and robust power delivery.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

I agree go for Lion drill the higher the number 1.54 Ah to 4 Ah the more charge it can hold. I have a makita drill/driver with hammer and 3.0Ah and it last ages and only occasional diy accept in Summer when i do more work on allotment. Mine will charge in 30 mins from flat so ample for occasional diy. Its so annoying wanting tioo use drill and have to wait hours for battery to charge

I actually bought this late last year. It might be bit more than you need, don't be talked into buying a more expensive drill, if you can't justify the cost.

If its going to be sitting on a shelf and you don't need it immediately. by all means look at cheaper options

Guessing you haven't needed a drill in the past ??
Maybe a corded drill, more powerful, always ready and MUCH cheaper should be considered.
If fact I would say, don't buy a cordless until you have owned a corded .

Wait for the answers arguing that point .

I use both cordless and corded. Corded is better drilling in concrete and engineering bricks. I tend to use cordless as its more convenient for me

Seen this on HOtukdeals today less than £30

Not bad price obviously has some drawback like long charging time and not so powerful but okay for small jobs. No hammer so no good for drilling in walls the cheaper ones tend not to have hammer

No argument from me, for occasional DIY use a corded drill makes sense.

Oh and OP what you save on buying a corded drill instead of cordless spend on quality drill bits.

    Thanks for the advice.

I think I will go for a corded drill. I will be drilling into walls occasionally so having the hammer option is a requirement.

Just need to see what are the best options out there.
