I,m a little bemused at Mse
"Now is the perfect time to switch and save your energy"
with only Eon cutting prices so far, wouldn't it be better to say wait until all others have made their move before making a decision switch

Chances of new fixes being significantly cheaper than current fixes is small. Top of the table for you today will not be far from the top of the table once changes to Standard tariffs are applied.
Plus you also lose out on for however long you hum and haw.0 -
Come on?? The oil price (which is the basic determinant of ALL energy prices) has fallen by nearly 60% since last year; 60% not 3.5%; and isn't forecast to rise again to those levels for 2 to 3 years. This is no time for defeatist attitudes; which will simply allow the corporate rip-off merchants in the energy market to make obscene windfall profits.0

I,m with SP dec 15 online fixed, yesterday I did a comparison since Eon's cut in price, Eon's tariff v.14 is now £85 cheaper than my current one, that's a significant saving in anyones book,
I would have switched yesterday, but I,m just waiting for the other big 5 to see if they cut theirs to see whats best once they have all shown their hands, rather than rush in now. hence my post about MSE claiming nows the best time to switch only after 1 cut??0 -

I'm pretty sure these are automated alerts sent when triggered with a price change of over a certain amount. Look at the Price Promise from EDF, it automatically generates a new tariff alert when a tariff anywhere in the industry is released that can save you more than £1 a week.
I suspect this is done similarly. When a new tariff is released, I do believe you get the alert anyway.
Now these alerts are there to make you aware. You should still do your own 'due diligence' to see if a switch benefits you (ie consumption and exit fees).
And you will most likely receive an alert if/when another supplier releases a better fixed tariff.0 -
Ivf is absolutely correct - the alerts are there to advise you that there might be a cheaper tariff but it's up to you to decide what suits you.
Most of the alerts I get are based on the premise that I will save money if I don't do anything when my current deal runs out. It's a reminder to do something rather that just letting it slide - it's up to you to make the decision of what is best for your particular circumstance, a generic computer program can'tNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
