It might not be dust mites, they're more often association with eczema or asthma than a rash. So it might be fleas, or ticks, or bed bugs, or scabies, or ... you might want to get it looked at by a doctor!

cat fleas. They jump up from a carpet or a rug. Friend`s house with a cat perhaps?

Hi OP, if you don't mind the chemicals Boots do an anti-dust mite spray that works really well. I also found hoovering everyday and changing the bed linen at least once a week helps - labour intensive but helped my skin no end. A matress protector is a good investement too - I picked up a cheap one from wilkinsons and that worked fine.

I also found hoovering/washing the curtains and removing as many of the soft furnishings as possible helps, but it depends what your comfortable with. hth cel x

  • Hi,

Dust mite excrement can aggravate asthma and trigger attacks, as well as cause allergic rhinitis.

There are many things we can do to reduce these allergens, such as vacuum more frequently, invest in protective bedding, and generally keeping on top of the housework!

However, investing in a dehumidifier could really help. Dust mites thrive in warm, damp and humid conditions. A dehumidifier can reduce the humidity levels, stopping them from reproducing. Fitted with a specialist air filter, dehumidifiers can cleanse the air of mould spores and dust particles.

  • Although I certainly won't say its definitely not dust mites, I do doubt that it is. I think its more likely something else. Dust mites are in every home, in various numbers. They tend to live mostly in soft furnishings, such as fabric sofa's, beds and carpets. As both you and your son have come out in a rash I doubt that you'd both suddenly get it from dust mites, as you will have had dustmites in your environment always.

Its more likely to either be something biting you, as someone said maybe fleas. Could possibly be bed bugs. Or anything other insect.
Or it could be a reaction to a laundry detergent, or fabric softener. Maybe you recently have changed brand, or brand fragrance, or the brand as changed their product.

See your doctor if you can't find the cause and are still suffering.
