    Hi all

Thanks for the thread Bob :)

Working from home today - will be off to see hoss this evening (assuming weather doesn't deteriorate) and to the gym so £10 spend.

Got two long commutes coming up so going to go out to the car at lunch time and make sure everything is ship shape. I may need to go out for some oil and anti freeze, hopefully not! We have an air compressor so I can do the tyres at home and last time I needed screen wash I bought a 5 litre bottle so plenty left. :rotfl:

    Afternoon all,
Today's small list of money saving bits:
*Saved a bit of energy by sharing bath tub, keeping downstairs heating off till 5pm & only having a titchy little pile of ironing this week (as unusually, only had 1 load of washing).
*Free fitness as went for a frosty walk earlier & will shortly be stripping off to do exercise DVD.
*Rajma bean curry & jacket potato for dinner. Tasty recipe & v cheap.....esp when Aldi reduce their red kidney beans to 19p a tin! Makes enough to freeze 2 portions for another day.
    *Checked online banking.
    *Did quite a few surveys.
*Write Jan & Feb's birthday cards (from stash). Wrap nephews' birthday presents as am seeing family members this weekend who will be able to deliver our gifts in person.....saves on what would be substantial postage costs. Will use recycled gift bags & home made labels.
*Continue with my current knitting project.
*Energy provider emailed to request meter readings so presume our bill will soon be forthcoming.......or they are planning on giving us a great big fat rebate. Hahahaha!
That's it. I may start thinking about next week's meal plans if I'm struck by inspiration.....actually, it is pretty much 'freezer month' here as plenty in there. Batch cooking defo saves us money.
Sunny here, but so cold! Would have done a longer walk today but I couldn't be bothered to find my hat & came home after 1.62 miles as it's so weird not being able to feel your own head!!
    Cheers,
    F x

    Good Morning All

Bob - Thanks for starting us off today and yes I'm taking it easy (watching Silent Witness, one of my fave programmes). Good news from Docs yesterday - apparently the heart attack was nothing to do with cholesterol as my levels are very low (2.8) and although I am a little overweight (more than a little really) I am in good health and showing no risk of developing type 2 diabetes or any other serious illnesses, so came away feeling chipper and upbeat.

That is great news. I am so pleased. Silent Witness was a bit mental this week eh. I am liking the new team.
Forgot to say ladies and gents if we have any
Tesco unsure if it every one and doing all there frozen xmas joints 1/2 price great for a lazy Sunday Dinner xxx

Thanks for the great tip LPP. I am still in shock at how amazing some of the posters on the Grocery Challenge thread are on that front. One person was stalking out the christmas joints in the supermarket before xmas to work out the optimiumn time after christmas to get mark downs. That is dedicated....
. OH had a herb mix up with dinner which led to bad ptsd related melt down and refusal to eat dinner. Managed to calm him down, get him showered and dressed (still in dressing gown when I got home). Went for a drive, which is usually a good way to calm him down then went to the pub for dinner. Still., with us both not drinking it was much cheaper than usual. Only £22 for us both as opposed to usual £35

Really sorry you had a tough night. It sounds like you handled it as best as possible. Hope tonight is better.

Maria - Thank you. You are right. I do want to. But just worried Im getting away with saving whilst still in debt. Thank you.

My success story of the day was discussing with First Utility my situation. They have applied a £25 good will gesture for messing it up, have assured me I am now being billed for actual usage, & also agreed to bring the DD from £130 to £105 (we are using about £78 a month, so that will clear the balance over 12 months or sooner) so that is a good result. :T

    Hi all

I managed to not buy anything for the car! Found some coolant and anti-freeze in the cellar and I still have a bit of that plus a bit of screenwash left but that car seems to hold a LOT of screenwash.

I was a good girl and checked all the lights too (brake and reversing lights excluded, going to ask Mom to check those tonight) so I feel ready to go in the morning now.

Decided to go the long way round which is an extra 14 miles each way so £12.60 more on expenses. The downside is I'll be driving past Leeds in rush hour plus there's more roadworks so I can expect it to take up to an hour extra! :( But better safe than sorry as my short cut is A and B roads so you'd expect the motorway to be a bit better.

Thanks for your thoughts guys, I do really appreciate it. It looks so silly written down but for him at that time, it really was the end of the world! OH in work tonight so I won't see him til much later. I think he's a bit better because he definitely ate lunch :)

bobarella - Hopefully this is the end of the energy bill fiasco!

Hugs to anyone who needs them and high fives to those that are buzzing :)

Well, there has been a rather manky looking quarter of a savoy cabbage in our fridge drawer all week........yes, that fridge drawer where bits of savoy cabbage go to die. Hoiked it out today, sick of seeing it. Was halfway to the compost bin when my Love Food, Hate Waste sensibilities kicked in. Stuck it on chopping board, cut off manky edges. Shredded the rest. Stir fried it with garlic & a pinch of salt and served it to Mr f with the curry I'd already made. He said 'Nice curry, Babe, & these crispy greens are GREAT!'........ so if in doubt, don't throw it out, jazz it up & serve it up to your man! Another Food Saved from Bin incident brought to you by Foxgloves...... who admittedly came late to frugality but now embraces it as a Friend!
