Bank account closed, passed to debt collectors-I live outside the UK

Options
Hello MSE,

Some advice please after 25 banking with the RBS they closed my account and passed to debt collectors. This was due to me being over my over draft limit of 1,800. As I am now living outside the UK and don't have any other financial ties, I have not paid back anything and only made email contact with the debt collectors 6 months ago.

I have no plans in the next 5 years to be resident in the UK and have been away for the last 5 years. But I do want to open a savings account in the uk, is this possible without having to be in the UK ?

I have no criminal convictions past or present !!!

Thanks in advance

There are few banks that will open saving accounts for non residents.
Many will do a credit check even for saving accounts. If you do find one you will need to ensure they are not part of the RBS group.
