Gas safe completion certificate

Options
Hi, hopefully someone can offer some advice.

A couple of years ago we had a gas central heating system installed in our home to replace the warm system it had.
This work was carried out by a recommended guy, who we know is on the gas safe register.

What we didn't realise is that upon installation we should of been provided with a certificate of completion.
2/3 yrs down the line we are in the process of selling our home, and on the solicitors paperwork it asks for the date of installation along with the completion certificate (unsure of the exact date). As a result of this we contacted the guy that done the work who said he would obtain one and get it sent through to us, so we thought great.

He has provided a certificate number and advised that the document should be with us within a week or so.

Sorry if it's long winded! The request he made for the certificate he has given as the start of this month which we know to be untrue, the people buying our house saw the house before this date too so would be aware of this also.

Why would he use a date this month? The fact the work was done a few years ago would gas safe query as to why he didn't do request for certificate then?
Would that look bad on him or cause him a problem?
If the certificate has this years month and date on it surely it's worthless? And would he have to reapply again for it?

Many thanks for any help you can offer :)

You have to register a boiler with gas safe within a month so he's just made up a date within that time frame.

    Thanks for the response!

What are the implications of him not registering it within the month?

When we sold our last house, we had this issue. We hadn't realised we should have a certificate (naive but hey) and while the paperwork had been completed on installation of the boiler, it was at the time when they were changing from Corgi to GasSafe so it didn't go through. They just got it sent out to us. Can't remember the date on it though, sorry

That's not quite correct. You have to notify that the boiler and installation complies with building regs. Which is a local authority matter. You can notify yourself or via GasSafe or often for free via the boiler manufacturer. It is not a Gas Safe certification matter, except to the extent that they do get notified so they can inspect it should they choose to. The home owner will receive a certificate of conformity from the local authority, not Gas Safe.

What the installer should have issued on completion to the owner was a new appliance safety certificate. If he issues one now he has to do it for the current date. You are not allowed to backdate it. For the purposes of a buyers solicitor this is perfectly adequate, though they might kick up a fuss they are just trying to big up themselves. A buyer need only be concerned that the installation has been passed for building regs, and that it is currently safe.

All that can be achieved with no fuss and drama, even though it should have been done earlier.

Thank you for that. Having spoken to Friend who is gas safe he has said the same, long as it has been passed/approved via a gas safe engineer then it's fine

    Thanks again
