Mortgage exit fee confusion

Hi
So this is a bit unusual _ fixed rate mortgage with nationwide - Making a decision on moving from South East England to Northern Ireland and when I contacted nationwide they told me in writing that if mortgage was ported there would be no fee - so roll on a few months later and when arranging to do this they told me verbally that they'd made a mistake in writing and that in fact we had to pay the fee -still porting but unusually the mortgage was going to be less. Nothing further in writing and when it goes throught the conveyances we got written confirmation that ther was no fee - then 8 weeks after we had completed they send us a letter demanding the exit fee (£7,000) within a week -

Can anyone offer any sage advice on where we stand with this ?
Thanks in advance
N

Have you (or your conveyancer?) got letters from them confirming there is no fee?

If so, write back enclosing a copy/copies, and refuse to pay.

If not, can you quote date/time of telephone conversations? And name of person who said it? refer them to their telephone records....

    See what happens.....
  • This is an ERC. you mention you were taking a smaller mortgage in NI - can you detail the amounts before and after and what rate your ERC was charged at (should be in your original mortgage T&Cs).
  • Will check the details of the Erc. And definitely have it in writing on email and through the conveyancer (2 letters) confirming there is no fee
