in Credit cards
Hi, last week I bought a camera off a website. It had a .co.uk address and prices were in Sterling. However, after getting a little suspicious I have found a thread on a forum saying this website is a big no no and you should avoid at all costs.
Apparently the goods (if they arrive) are from the US and are not always as described. I have phoned my credit card company who have advised me to give it till the end of the week for delivery, and if the goods don't come I have to give them a ring back.
I just wondered if anyone could give me some advice. Would I be better off going and buying them somewhere else and just refusing to sign for these original goods IF they eventually arrive? Can I do that? Will the CCC refund me the money if I tell them the goods aren't as described?
I really want the goods quickly as I am emigrating shortly and a lot of people seem to have recieved their goods but after a wait of about a month. I'll be gone by then!
I have emailed the company and they told me the goods would be despatched today for delivery by friday, but I'm not holding my breath.
Any thoughts on the best course of action?
They haven't done anything wrong yet but I'm trying to jump ahead for when/if it does go pear shaped.

I think you have to give the company the benefit of the doubt until your goods arrive (or don't arrive as the case may be).
If you bought online then you can rely on distance selling regulations and return the camera for a full refund (the company have the right to ask you to pay return postage) if not satisfactory.
I hope you used a credit card as they will have joint liability for any no show or goods not satifactory.0 -
Hi, thanks for the reply. I will sit tight and see what happens until friday when they said the goods would be delivered by.
I did pay with a credit card and I phoned them to see if the transaction could be stopped but they said it couldn't. They said they would have to wait 30 days to see if goods arrive, it is only then that they will step in if they haven't. To be honest they weren't much use at all, I was trying to help them by telling them this could be a dodgy transaction but they didn't wanna know until the 30 days have passed.
The trouble is I expect to be in Australia by then. Emigrated. With no fixed address for a while. I can see this getting messy.
Do the distance selling regulations apply if the company is in the US?
