Windows Live Mail, new email problem.

When I try to create a new email (or forward or reply to) it starts to open the new message screen and then crashes and closes the program.

Have googled and tried a few things but so far no luck.

What I want to know is, if I completely uninstall Live Mail to do a new install, does that get rid of the emails I already have and if so how do I back them up?

OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

Thanks in advance.

    Yes it does.
and if so how do I back them up?

    Go to File>Export Email>Export Messages.

Highlight Microsoft Windows Live Mail, then click Next".

Choose a location (NB. the location/folder must be empty, so create a new folder if necessary), then click "Next".

Make sure "All Folders" is selected, then click "Next".

All email folders will be exported to the chosen location/folder.

For the accounts, go to File>Export Email>Export Accounts.

Highlight an account and click "Export".

Select a location and click "Save".

    Repeat for each account.

I can't speak for Live Mail, but most programs keep installation files and user data separate. A program should never delete user data when uninstalling. I'd be surprised if Microsoft doesn't follow their own guidelines.

But better to make a backup anyway though.

    Here's how to do it.

    Open Windows Live Mail.

In the bottom left hand corner, click "Contacts".

At the top of the screen, click "Export" and click "Comma Separated Values (.CVS)"

Browse to a location/folder of you choice (making a note of where it is), then click "Next".

Put a tick in all the fields you want to keep. If you aren't sure, you could tick them all, but the more you tick, the bigger the file size.

Click "Finish", and the contacts will be exported to the location/folder you selected.
