I am about to switch to fixed rate, but if Eon have reduced gas today, would it be best to wait a while. Presumably electric will go down as well and other companies will follow ?

Depends. If you truly mean what you wrote - 'about to move to a fixed rate' rather than 'about to move to a different fix' then you should switch now. Or at least check what leaving fee free fixes are available (there are plenty, some top of the table.) Check single fuels with separate tariffs, too.

Have just moved into a new property, which has British Gas for gas and EDF for electric, both on standard tariffs
