Direct Debit payments from credit card?

Sorry if this question has already been answered.

Can I pay my direct debit bills using my credit card instead of my debit card? (I want to pay by credit to benefit from the credit card cash back service). Does direct debit mean it's only for debit cards and not credit cards?

You cannot set up a direct debit from a credit card or a debit card, they use a continuous payment authority and not all organisations will accept this. A direct debit is from a bank account using sort code and account number.
