Smart Parking, Appeal or ignore?

Last time I got one of these the advice on here was to ignore it and it would go away. I did and it did

Do these still just go away if ignored?

I recently broke down in a shopping centre car park and now have a fine for staying too long as I walked home and came back later with my wife to get the car started. I can prove I had business with one of the stores (Vet's) but the fine is addressed to my wife as its her car.

The invoice states that they checked with the main store (Asda) and there was no report of a breakdown etc. I didn't go into Asda and wouldn't have thought to report the breakdown.

Is it worth saying there was a valid reason for the overstay or will this just give them ammunition to prove the overstay. I've read the stickys and know this needs to be answered in my wife's name at the keeper and not mine as the driver

Thanks in advance
