Change in licence plate affect value?
I've been looking at buying a new car. Come down to a Kia Rio versus a Skoda Fabia. Although the Fabia is more expensive both actually work out about the same once you take finance plans into account (Skoda offering 0% on the about to disappear old shape). And it seems that the Fabia is cheaper to insure. The plate changes soon - should I take that into account?

I think a face lift model will wipe out anything you'll gain between a 2015 64 or 15 plate car.0 -
The plate change means you have to consider two things. Firstly you may get a cheaper deal on a 64 plate just prior to the change over, if the dealer has stock to get rid of.
The only time the 15 plate will be of benefit is when you come to sell it. If someone is looking at two similar cars and one is a 64 and the other is a 15 they're more likely to go for the 15 plate. How much it will add to the value is debatable.0 -
What you may save on buying the "older" plate, will probably be wiped out by the small loss when selling compared to the newer plate.
Each month I have to analyse a large fleet of vehicles and compare our book value against the current and projected CAP values for when they come off fleet. Our fleet is a mix of cars and small vans but the difference between two vehicles registered a month or two apart on different plates is only around £2-300.
From what I understand speaking to others in the industry is that the plate change does not make as much of a difference as it used to when there was only one a year.
Now that we have 14 plate/2014 year, 64 plate/2014 year 64/2015 and 15/2015 when looking at residual values, the differentials are much small than what we used to see about 14-15 years ago.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0
