airline changing flights advice please

I booked flights for August this year
Tap Portugal from Gatwick to Madeira direct flight 3hrs35
I looked today to find that this direct flight is no longer being offered
They have changed me to an indirect flight from Gatwick to Lisbon and then onto Madeira now taking over 6hours
To make matters worse the return flight offered returns me to Heathrow
I have tried to discuss with the airline and they are happy to make any changes to the flights but everything will now be indirect and not necessarily at convenient times and to get me back to Gatwick on the day I booked will have a 9hour stop over in Porto.
They are not offering any compensation, they will not refund the flight and my credit card company whom I paid for the flight will not get involved as TAP have offered to get me to and from the destination albeit by a completely different route/time/non direct flight
Can anyone advise as to whether there are other avenues to follow to get compensation or a full refund

Find some more suitable flights on another carrier and ask TAP to reroute you.0

Or insist on a refund which are legally entitled to (and which may be easier to obtain than re-routing on another carrier).0
