Closing credit cards

Right, I am slowly but surely trying to sort my finances, I now have 2 creidt cards with £0 balance, and was wondering whether its best to close them asap, or leave them open hoping for a fab balance transfer deal!

I am hoping in a couple of months to apply for a loan, as I don't think I would be accepted for any more credit cards (I have 6, 3 of which have quite high balances, 2 with £0, and one that has very little on it - about £100)

Can anyone help? I really don't know what to do!!

Basically - closed lots of cards and reduced credit limits. Never missed any payments etc

Turned down for everything in sight for 18 months, then when my credit limits went up again a month ago, suddenly I was seen as a worthy customer again and accepted for the first two cards I applied for.
