I am just beginning the process of arranging to have an assessment etc and have just discovered that the companies will be doing a credit check on everyone who apply when arranging installation.
I am on a low wage , work 3 jobs and have two teenagers living with me My exhusband left us with £50,000 worth of debt and makes no contribution. I live in a house which is suffering greatly and the only way I could have afforded any improvements was through the Green Deal but now it looks that I can't have it as my I know my Credit Rating is dire.
Please does anyone have any suggestions that might help ?
Thank you

Apologies if I have posted this in the wrong place

  • I've just been turned down after a credit check :( I am gutted. I wasn't aware that it would be a part of it :(

Grren deal isn't a freebie giveaway, it's a credit arrangement that allows you to pay back the sum you've borrowed via your energy bills. Therefore it's not unreasonable that you'd be credit checked if you are going to be borrowing money over a fairly long period.

  • I thought that, as it was paid back through your energy bills, it wouldn't require a credit check :(

Not really. It's automatically deducted from your energy bills, so it's not like most other unsecured credit.

Do you know who it was that turned you down? Can you get a copy of your credit report?

  • The letter says "your application for a green deal loan has been declined by the green deal finance company. The reason for this is that your credit score was too low". I know that my credit score is low and therefore I wouldn't be able to apply for a loan to pay for the job elsewhere :(
  • The GD is an access to a line of credit, no different to a leccy provider or buying a motor car or house. Risk is assessed according to finances, the ability to collect on the loan they make discharges Consumer Credit Act obligations to the bill-payer on the Provider's behalf.

  • thanks for enlightening me. It is a shame, as I obviously pay my power bills, so it wouldn't mean anything more and I have recently taken on car finance. But thanks for the info x
