New phone - SIM card not ready?

Just bought a new Nokia 106 to replace my old mobile (also a Nokia). It is still PAYG on the Virgin network, so I have put the old SIM card in. I can receive and make calls, but when I try to set up contacts, it is saying "SIM card not ready".
Has anyone come across this problem before?

Never had this myself, but a quick search suggests taking out the SIM, wiping it (to clean off any dust) and then reinserting it.

Thanks, I tried that, but have now found that I cannot get the back open. I Googled this, and found that other people have spent literally hours trying to get the back open.
As I suffer from Carpal Tunnel Syndrome this phone is going to be returned to the shop today, because there is no need in this day and age to make things so difficult to use.
I have never had any problems opening up the back on a phone before.:(0 -
I can't open the back of my phone either. (Nexus 4). But that's by design.

the key is to run your thumbnail into the join between the case and the front panel, once a side and corner is free, push down on the rear button while holding the rim of the cover to force the phone from the cover

Cheers mate, that worked in seconds, and the bonus is that I got the SIM card out, gave it a wipe, put it all back together and it works.:beer:0
