Have I got this right? you work at the same office?!
Even if you own 2 cars, driving seperately to the same place (in a city centre no less!) seems utterly crazy. No wonder there is so much bloody traffic on the roads!0 -

Because I had never seen manifold used as an adjective before, only a noun.
I am now slightly older and very slightly wiser.

I agree. I go into a deep (but short-lived) depression if we have to use two cars to get to work. Sometimes it's unavoidable as one of us may need to be home by six and the other may be working until nine.0 -

Ah I see.
Yep - manifold as in contraction of the more medieval term 'many-fold'.0 -
Has anybody made the transition to a one-car household?
Erm, well you'll find a significant number of people could only ever dream of having 2 cars in the household in the first place - especially since it seems the benefit of the second one seems to simply be to get to the gym 3 times a week.
My OH works 15 miles away from our town in one direction and I work 20 miles away from work in the complete other direction. Even with a child we manage, so i'm sure you'll be able to cope!
Yep, and some people can afford to run two cars. Should I feel guilty about that? :huh:Gloomendoom wrote: »I agree. This is part of the issue. My hours are so unpredictable and I spend so much time travelling to court, client appointments and such that it's a necessity to have my car at my disposal most days of the week. Hence asking my partner to give up her convenience.0 -
First World problems eh?
But having a two car household very much depends on what you need, and what you can afford.
Some cannot afford one car, but need it desperately,
Some cannot afford two cars but WANT them desperately,
Some do not have a car at all, but need one.
Some have three cars, but WANT a fourth one.
Needs and wants.
If money is not an issue, have what you wish.0 -
No, but then you can hardly moan how you want to save money.
You sound like a right politician ie out of touch
Can I not? Is money-saving reserved for those with money woes? What a ludicrous notion.First World problems eh?

Absolutely. And taking it from a slightly different angle, we are on the fringe between want/need as to a second vehicle however certainly want the additional money to put towards the house!0 -
Maybe devil's advocate here, but why should she give up HER car to make savings that YOU seem to want more than her? You may be placing unnecessary pressure on the relationship by "forcing" her into a reluctant decision to give up her freedom /ability to drive where she wants when she wants- seems you are really not giving up anything at all but expect her to relinquish her freedom and car ownership because YOU think its a good idea?
And for those who don't think a couple should have two cars - if the individuals each want a car and can pay the costs involved in ownership, that really has nothing to do with anyone else - it's all about freedom of choice.0
