can we claim on the house insurance?

Options
Hi all, Sorry if this is on the wrong board

Cut a long story short due to the bad weather we have been having for the past few weeks our house has developed a few leak's in the roofs

The attic roof upstairs has a few leak's coming through and on to the carpet at the moment we have a few buckets to collect the water that's coming in

Also more leaks have developed on the kitchen extension roof and one other bedroom

We have had house insurance for the last 30years and we have never made a claim for anything on it

I was wondering weather the house insurance policy would cover such problems that have been caused do to the bad weather

We are with esure for our cover, has anybody claimed for any roof work that needed doing on their property?

Any advice would be appreciated

Thank is advance

Almost certainly not. It sounds like the roof is in poor condition, and needs repair. That's not what insurance is for!
  • Your buildings insurance should cover you for storm damage.

However - your insurers may feel that the leaks are caused by poor maintenance of the roof. And the cost of repairs may not reach the excess on your policy.

You need to talk to your insurers.

The length of time you've had a policy and whether or not you've ever made a claim has no bearing on whether or not you're covered.

  • I agree, unless there is damage that can specifically be attributed to the recent storms I don't think they'll pay out. It just sounds like wear and tear to me.

  • The roof problems may not be covered, but damage inside to carpet/decoration might be. That was the case when we had a flat roof go.
