The former. Java is an oft used route to get malware etc on to your system.
If you dont need it i'd suggest disabling/removing it.0 -

I think it is a mix of both.
Most people won't need Java installed at all. Do you know if you really need it? If not, uninstall it. If you're not sure, you could uninstall it too and see whether any software complains about the missing Java. Then you can re-install the latest Java.0 -
Do you mean literally every day? If so then something isn't right. Is the update actually completing?
I use a laptop which does have Java on it (because of a software package which specifically requires it) and while it asks me to update every month or so, it certainly isn't every day.0 -
Use firefox and noscript. It stops sites automatically running it.
Its OK them saying remove it, but so many websites still use it.
Do you know all the scripts this site runs and other websites it links to?
googletagmanager, google-analytics, chartbeat, visualwebsiteoptimizer, googleapis.

If its every day, then it could be the last installation failed.
Go here:

To test what version you have, ONLY trust the genuine Java website.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

I don't think that many sites actually do use it, certainly it's not a requirement for any of the Google sites you mentioned. Are you sure you don't mean JavaScript (which is entirely different and widely used)? Java-reliant plugins on web sites have been more or less extinct for absolutely years - yes there's one specific tiny corner of the formula 1 website etc., but most people won't meet a Java plugin in a year of general browsing.0 -
If you do need Java for something on your computer but not the web you can just disable the web bit in the Java settings. The former. Java is an oft used route to get malware etc on to your system.

Very little stuff on the web needs Java so doing this is unlikely to have any impact on web use.0 -

You are confusing Java with JavaSCRIPT. OP is talking about the Java runtime; you are talking about client-side scripting in the web browser.0 -
The Java runtime is updated four times a year, Sun moved to this model after complaints that it seemed to be always updating itself. Occasionally there are vulnerabilities discovered that are considered so important to fix that a patch is pushed immediately, in addition to the regular schedule.
You should not be seeing java updates every day at present, so the updater would appear to be failing.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
