O2 - Fraudulent Debit Card Transactions
Comments
-
I've had a couple of unauthorised transactions appear on my statement, too. T-Mobile, IIRC.
The fraud isn't really against you or your bank; it's against O2.
O2 have presumably taken the business decision that it can live with a certain amount this type of fraud, presumably weighted against keeping the topup process reasonably hassle free for legitimate customers.
I think O2 do alright out of it, they still get their money. The bank takes the hit by refunding the accounts. I don't think they can get the money back from O2 once it's cleared, can they?0 -
Your assumptions are plain wrong.I think O2 do alright out of it, they still get their money. The bank takes the hit by refunding the accounts.
Sure they can and they do.I don't think they can get the money back from O2 once it's cleared, can they?
Have you ever heard of chargeback?
Visa, Mastercard & Amex Chargeback
HSBC don't investigate simply because they don't have anything to investigate. They will only if O2 come back to them claiming that the transactions were legitimate.0 -

Never had any experience of it before so had no idea. Useful to know though.0 -
Banks appear to be remarkably uninterested in combating fraud.
A friend of mine had his credit card copied and managed to work out exactly how it was done. He offered to tell the bank where the card copying machine was kept etc.
The bank told him not to bother.0 -

It's really weird isn't it? They make such a big deal out of it when you sign up with them, how they protect you etc but when it happens they're unusually nonchalant. I'm just glad I got my money back albeit annoyed that the people responsible are getting away with it!0
