Memory Foam Mattress Topper?

Options
Guys,

What do people think of the memory foam mattress toppers available on amazon, for circa £40-50 - the ones that are just foam that you'd put a protector on top of.

Does anyone have any experience of them?

Basically I'm trying to make an Ikea bed a bit more comfortable for 2-3 months or so until I move house and we get a new bed and leave the old one behind (hence not wanting to get a new mattress).

I was a bit concerned about the smell and whether they'd be any good - any thoughts or suggestions much appreciated!

Bit of an odd topic I guess!

Thanks!

Should be fine for 2-3 months use. Longer term the foam will fail

May be worth looking at a visco elastic topper for something more longer lasting

They are great. I loved ours until we went and bought a memory foam mattress. ( I have a bad back...it works wonders some nights, depends which way I sleep
  • I just use a duvet under my fitted sheet. A lot cheaper, easy to wash and I have had no further back problems.

I have heard that memory foam can make some people sweat. I know my neighbour spent a fortune on a mattress with a memory foam topping and ended up turning it over as he could not stand how it made him sweat.
  • I've had one of those on my bed for over six years and it's still going strong! It made such a difference and is slightly warmer to sleep on too. I think it cost about £40 at the time :)

I have a memory foam mattress myself and I know it's very comfortable, hence looking at this. I know it's a poor man's version but due to moving circumstances a mattress just wouldn't be sensible.

My only concerns are the smell and I suppose heat, however, I'm not sure how much hotter it would be compare to a normal memory foam mattress. I intended to use a protector on top of it too, probably a white company cotton one.

    Thanks for the replies.
  • The heat is fine during the winter, but a pain in the summer. I thought they were a wonderful invention until I read about chemicals in them.

I did Google them and found someone who said the smell was dreadful.
