Unfortunately Halifax will only accept online payments from a Halifax bank account. Get a Halifax Rewards account and you could fairly easily make a tenner a month. :)

As B_G_B has correctly pointed out this is nonsense, and I very much doubt if there is any UK credit card that cannot be paid off by transfer from an account at a different bank. It's possible that there might be a few that won't accept cash or cheque payment, although I can't see any good reason for it, after all, money is money.

I agree, may as well go for the extra free monthly benefit by using the Reward current account.
You can make online payments from non Halifax accounts if you wish to though.

Check under the Making Payments tab. From another bank section.

    Oh yes, of course.

I was getting a little muddled. Halifax Clarity is the only one of my credit cards that I can't pay using a Debit Card. :)

  • I've already set the Clarity card up as a quick payment from my current account so I can do it from the ap on my phone. You can only qualify for the rewards account if you pay a certain amount a month in.

Clarity is mastercard but halifax debit is visa so I should be ok.

Another thing....although halifax don't charge for withdrawal, lots of foreign banks charge a fee for using their atms. The lonely planet forum is not bad for finding out which ones don't.

I withdrew a couple of grand at ATMs in Asia on Clarity during December. Paid from my Nationwide Flex Account via Faster Payments. Total interest paid: 17p.
