Thinking of setting up as a market trader. Any tips?
Longships, I sort of get what a Casual is, also a Pitcher. I'm assuming a casual will use the market's tables and equipment and just bring their goods, a pitcher will also bring their own tables.
But on that Market Traders website that RFW highlighted they also have a category called 'Demmers' so my question is what is a Demmer? I can't see any definitions on the web.
"Demmer: a Market Trader who demonstrates their product and how it works (such as carpet cleaner) in order to make a sale"
At the market I used to sell at a few years ago, all the tables were provided and set up for everyone and you rented or hired how ever many tables you needed. Long term sellers would obviously have the same tables/pitches on a regular basis

The demmers (or pitchers) used to be the heart and soul of the market, not many decent ones around any more. I saw one at a show a while back that was essentially an over priced potato peeler, he was selling loads at a fiver each, very impressive.
The best one I've seen in recent times was a woman selling a super expensive food blender at a posh food fair, I'd guess she only needed to sell half a dozen to have a good day.
