Thanks all, they've just replied saying they will send a cheque so all good and legit it seems. Thanks for your views, appreciate it.

    Well done!

They can't take anything from your account with account no. and sort code. Besides cheques and bank transfers, the other thing you'd need bank details for is if someone wants to set up a direct debit with the information, but they would need your address and also address of bank branch too so I fail to see what they can do with that information. As someone else said, it's the same details on a chequebook. Unless there's something else I'm missing...

You should NEVER give out your personal or bank account details to somebody you don’t know and trust.

Didn't Jeremy Clarkson publish his bank details as he believed nothing could happen with them and ended up with a huge DD set up for a charity? I agree with those on this thread who urge caution, glad it's had a happy ending for you though, congrats on the win :)

Many comps require you to provide your address when entering so it's likely they already have this info - Also Date of birth! It's also quite easy to find the branch details from sort codes....This competition may have been genuine but there are plenty of unscrupulous people out there that will use competitions (Fake ones that is) to obtain your info for the purpose of identity fraud or theft!!

Better to be safe than sorry - Don't give out bank details :)

PS Congrats on the win!! :)
