We take in parcels for neighbours, pop their bins back on the drive if they are away, etc.
It worked really well with our previous neighbour. She was elderly but mobile, and was quite happy to take parcels in. Similarly I was quite happy to change lightbulbs for her, clear out her gutters when I was doing mine, etc.
We've just moved to a new house, and invited the neighbours round for nibbles and drinks over Christmas. Some came, some didn't - and that's fine. It starts to build a little bit of community spirit.
